Rewild Earth

Nature stores carbon, cools cities and shelters wildlife. Rewild Earth counts anything that helps living things grow: a pot of herbs, a pollinator box, a community clean-up, or a sponsored tree.

What counts

  • Plant something native: a seedling, a window box, a balcony pollinator patch, a community garden bed.
  • Look after it: watering, mulching or protecting plants you or your neighbours already planted.
  • Restoration support: joining a local planting day, a stream or beach clean-up, or sponsoring native tree planting through a reputable programme.

Why it matters

Healthy soil, trees, wetlands such as mangroves and urban green space all help absorb carbon, reduce heat and support biodiversity. They work best when the right species are planted in the right place and looked after for years, which is why this pillar is about care, not just planting.

How to do it well

  1. Choose native species. Local plants support local insects and birds and usually need less water.
  2. Plant where it can survive. A small, well-tended plant beats a hundred neglected ones.
  3. Ask about monitoring. If you sponsor planting, look for programmes that report survival rates and local community involvement.
  4. Start small. Herbs on a windowsill count and teach the habit of looking after something.

How GoC5 estimates it

A logged Rewild Earth action is worth +50 $C5 with an example estimate of 3.2 kg CO2. Real carbon benefits from planting take years to build and depend heavily on species and survival, so this figure is a simplified illustration. The preview does not plant any trees; see Rewilding Partners for how we plan to vet programmes.
