8 best remaining MLB free agents in 2025 ft. Roki Sasaki, Pete Alonso, and Alex Bregman (Getty)
With 2024 firmly in the rearview mirror, teams can begin looking forward to the 2025 MLB season. Before they do that, though, there are still a few impactful free agents left on the market.
Here’s who teams should have their eyes on in the new year.
The best MLB free agents left entering 2025
8) Jurickson Profar
Jurickson Profar is available (Imagn)
Teams are obviously hesitant on Jurickson Profar. His stats were partly inflated because he played for the San Diego Padres, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he had a career resurgence and will probably still be an impactful player in 2025.
7) Tanner Scott
Tanner Scott remains an option (Imagn)
The top reliever on the market is still available in 2025. Tanner Scott accumulated 4.5 fWAR in 2023 and 2024 and was excellent for the Padres in 2024. He’s 30, so he’s a bit younger than some of his counterparts, too. Relievers can be volatile, but Scott will probably be a great addition to almost any team.
6) Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty is available (Imagn)
The starting pitching market has dried up a bit, but that’s good news for Jack Flaherty. He’s not even 30 yet and had 5.0 fWAR in 2023 and 2024. He is much better than aging veterans or pitchers who were overall less valuable across that span.
5) Anthony Santander
Anthony Santander hit 44 home runs (Imagn)
Anthony Santander hit 44 home runs last year with the Baltimore Orioles. No other free agent, not even Juan Soto, hit more last year. Any team that needs offense from a corner outfield spot should be all over Santander in 2025.
4) Ha-Seong Kim
Ha-Seong Kim is a free agent (Imagn)
Ha-Seong Kim has been flying under the radar, but he shouldn’t be. Among remaining free agents, he has the second-most fWAR since 2023 with 6.9. That’s due to good defense at multiple spots, but that should make him desirable for most teams.
3) Pete Alonso
Pete Alonso is still a free agent (Imagn)
With 5.0 fWAR in the last two seasons as well as a plethora of home runs, Pete Alonso remains one of the most imposing offensive forces on the open market. The only problem is that most teams have filled their first base holes already. The Boston Red Sox and New York Mets may be the only teams left, but Alonso will be a good addition to either.
2) Roki Sasaki
Roki Sasaki has posted (Imagn)
It’s difficult to value Roki Sasaki since he’s only 23 and has never pitched in the MLB before. With that said, he is an extremely tantalizing prospect and is poised to dominate the sport for years to come. He’s met with several teams and anticipates meeting with a couple more, but the Sasaki sweepstakes should end soon.
1) Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman is available (Imagn)
Alex Bregman had 8.6 fWAR in 2023 and 2024, the most of any available free agent. He’s 31 but probably in line for a long-term deal. The New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and more should all be interested in the former Houston Astros star.
