Shayna Baszler Discusses Story Behind Viral WWE Moment

Shayna Baszler will compete in a non-WWE event during WrestleMania weekend.

Former Intercontinental Champion and current AEW star John Morrison will also be participating in the event with more unexpected names to be announced soon.

While AEW regularly allows its talent to wrestle for other promotions, WWE rarely does. In the past, some talent have performed in different promotions while under a World Wrestling Entertainment contract.

In 2006 CM Punk made a shocking one off appearance for Ring of Honor while on a developmental contract. In 1995, Shawn Michaels defended the IC title against the Nature Boy Buddy Landel in Smokey Mountain Wrestling. The Undertaker wrestled Jinsei Shinzaki in Michinoku Prom in 1997. Taz famously returned to ECW to win the ECW World Championship from Mike Awesome in 2000 and more recently Shinsuke Nakamura headed to Pro Wrestling NOAH to face The Great Muta in his final match.

Who granted WWE Superstars permission to wrestle for other promotions during WrestleMania weekend?

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that WWE talent being allowed to appear for other promotions was down to Paul Levesque.

The outlet stated that they were told Baszler and other talent appearing at indie shows was a Levesque decision and another clear indication that he has different views on these things compared to the former regime under Vince McMahon.

Baszler was trained by Josh Barnett, who taught her how to incorporate his catch wrestling style into her MMA offence. He also gave her the Queen of Spades moniker and helped her transition from MMA into professional wrestling.

Bloodsport is a hybrid MMA and Pro Wrestling event, which features a ring with ropes and is fought under knockout or submission rules. Over the years the event has seen some of the toughest and legitimate fighters from around the world compete. Names such as Jon Moxley, Timothy Thatcher, Matt Riddle and Minoru Suzuki have battled in the tournament.

With Bloodsport coming under the Game Changer Wrestling banner, a new report has shed light on the relationship between GCW and WWE.
