In a past interview, Shubman Gill opened up about joining Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR team.

In 2018, Shubman Gill joined Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the Indian Premier League (IPL). The cricketer performed exceptionally well and made a smashing debut in the home-ground cricket tournament. Gill was just 21 when he made it to the team and proved himself as one of the best young cricketers in this country.

In a past interview, Shubman Gill opened up about joining Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR team. In the interview with PTI, Gill was asked if he feels stressed when he’s on the ground, considering it was his first IPL. The cricketer answered that the only thing that stays in his mind when he goes on the field to bat is to score. He thinks about how he would make score runs in certain kinds of situations.

Shubman Gill’s only goal is to win matches for whichever team he’s playing on the field. His optimism is something that’s quite admirable. But what piece of advice did the Pathaan actor give him when he joined the KKR IPL team? Well, Shubman didn’t get a “sattar minute” speech like we see in Chak De! India, but SRK said something very encouraging to the cricketer.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Motivational Words

About what Shah Rukh Khan said to him, Shubman Gill revealed, “I think when I first met him (SRK), and I think I was about to make my IPL debut in that match, he just came and told me ‘just go out there and express yourself’.For any youngster, if your owner of the team is telling you to express yourself without having the fear of being dropped or getting dropped. It’s a really big thing.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s words have definitely stayed with Shubman Gill as today, he’s such a prominent cricketer. For IPL 2024, Shubman doesn’t play for the KKR team anymore. In 2022, Shubman joined the Gujarat Titans team. After Hardik Pandya, Shubman was appointed the team’s captain in 2024. When Shubman was appointed the team’s captain in November 2023, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his joy. Gill wrote, “I am proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and I cannot thank the franchise enough for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. Let’s make it memorable! To all the fans… #AavaDe!”.
