The journey of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not always been easy for Shah Rukh Khan and his team, Kolkata Knight Riders. As he’s a Bollywood superstar, everything he does or says grabs eyeballs and headlines. Any decision he takes regarding his team is sometimes appreciated and sometimes questioned by the media or fans. But the superstar never let anything affect the love he has for the game of cricket and his team. Hence, when external factors tried to compare him with Sourav Ganguly, SRK didn’t let anyone twist the matter.

To give you a reminder of the past events events, when KKR was formed, Sourav Ganguly was assigned as the team’s captain. In 2009, he was dropped as the team’s captain and was replaced by Brendon McCullum. Sourav played for the team till 2010. However, fans of the actor and trolls wouldn’t stop bringing up the topic often. Many kept comparing Shah Rukh Khan with the former Indian Skipper, which irked the actor once.

After Kolkata Knight Riders’ post-match party, the Dunki actor told the media, “Grow up, please. This is sport. Let’s play it like a sport. We keep on talking about Kings and Khans. This is crap, to be honest. I say this with love and respect to all of you. To be honest, if we don’t outgrow this, it is embarrassing not only to us, not only to me, it is embarrassing for Dada also. We should get over this. Every time I come to Kolkata, if you are going to bring this up for a few headlines and some spicy titbits, I think it’s a little unfair.”

Shah Rukh Khan further said, “It’s not only unfair to me. It is unfair to the great legend that Sourav Ganguly is. Let him play his cricket, lead his life in whichever team he plays for, whether it’s an Indian team, an IPL team or a domestic team. We should all be cheering for the greatness that he has achieved instead of making him small with these comparisons and belittling the importance of what Sourav Ganguly has achieved in Indian sports history.”

Meanwhile, for IPL 2024, Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR team is led by Shreyas Iyer. The team has played three matches and won all of them so far. On April 3, SRK’s team played against Delhi Capitals (DC) and won by 106 runs.
