Today as controversy continues to build in Vancouver the Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has called out star Elias Pettersson for being immature.
This season the Vancouver Canucks have been surrounded by conflict between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller.
With Miller stepping away from the Canucks for over a month many wondered what was going on within the Canucks locker room.
Once the conflict between Miller and Pettersson was revealed many fans assumed that Miller was in the wrong and asked to step away by the team.
Over the last few weeks, reports have continued to come in regarding what transpired between the two, and interestingly, it seems that Pettersson might be more at fault.
Things have now progressed to the point where Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has had to step in and has now called out Pettersson for being immature.
Patrik Allvin rips into Elias Pettersson for being immature
During a new press conference, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin was asked about Elias Pettersson and his struggles to find the consistent star level so many fans and media expect from him.
Allvin referenced an immaturity that still remains in Pettersson’s game and personality that has been holding him back from being truly great despite achieving such amazing heights.
It comes back to expectations and preparation, how you prepare yourself,” Allvin said on Pettersson. I don’t believe that he was aware of just how hard it was going to be. Just because you achieve one thing to get a long-term extension life just gets harder. You haven’t really accomplished anything. You’re not even halfway there (to winning a Stanley Cup). And then obviously the mental part comes in there, too, and suddenly you feel the pressure, Allvin said.
This type of call out from an NHL GM towards one of his players is rarely seen especially with a superstar like Elias Pettersson.
It now seems clear that despite giving Pettersson a long-term contract the Canucks believe he and his immaturity is the problem when it comes to their recent locker room conflicts.
With this quote now out in the world it will be fascinating to see how Pettersson reacts and moves forward with the Canucks.
Can Pettersson move forward and improve or will he demand a new home and new team the believes in him and allows him to be who he wants to be
The NHL Trade Deadline is still a few months away and as it approaches all eyes will be on the Canucks to see how they handle the constant drama in their locker room.
