Yesterday evening, the 2023 Billboard Music Awards took place in Los Angeles, California, and was another night of history making for Taylor Swift.
At the Billboard Music Awards, Swift won ten awards including, Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top 100 Songwriter, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Selling Song for “Anti-Hero” which features on her 2022 album, Midnights. This brought her career total wins to 39. With his five awards, for Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Touring Artist, and Top Rap Album – Her Loss, his collaboration with 21 Savage – Drake’s career total also went up to 39.
Ahead of the award ceremony, Drake released a surprise EP, Scary Hours 3, featuring “Red Button” – a song that acknowledged his chart battles with Swift: “Taylor Swift the only n—a that I ever rated / Only one could make me drop the album just a little later / Rest of y’all I treat you like you never made it / Leave your label devastated / Even when you pad the stats, period, I never hated,” he says on the song.
Drake changed the release date of Her Loss from 28 October to 4 November, to avoid competing with Swift’s Midnights album. Her Loss took over from Midnights on the number one spot of the Billboard 200, but Swift reclaimed the top spot the following week.
