NHL: New York Rangers at Dallas Stars – Source: Imagn
The New York Rangers announced on Monday that forward Matt Rempe had been re-assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate the Hartford Wolf Pack. Rempe has served seven of the eight games he had been suspended for after elbowing and boarding Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen.
The move came after the Rangers claimed 23-year-old Arthur Kaliyev, the former second-round pick of the LA Kings, off waivers.
Here’s how fans reacted to Rempe’s demotion on X (formerly Twitter).
“Rempe is such wasted talent… I know everyone hates him but he could be amazing if he wanted to be,” one fan wrote on X.
“Hopefully forever,” another fan wrote.
“Either leave him up, or leave him down, this roller coaster ride is not helping his development,” one X user said.
“Let him play big minutes in the AHL and develop! He has a lot of potential,” one fan wrote on X.
“I’m begging you to never call up this b*m again,” another fan said.
“They won’t properly coach him on how to time his hits so just send him down when this team is lacking size and physicality,” an X user wrote.
Matt Rempe will still have to serve the final game of his suspension before returning to action
One final game remains on Matt Rempe’s eight-game suspension. A Rangers fan on X provided some insight into Rempe’s suspension details now that he’s in the AHL.
“This means that Matt Rempe’s 8 game suspension comes to a pause,” the rangers superfan wrote. “He’s still allowed to practice with the @WolfPackAHL, just as he was allowed with the @NYRangers, but he cannot complete his suspension until he is back on the NHL roster for the remainder of the suspension (1 more game).”
The Rangers’ next game will be on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden when they host the Dallas Stars. The puck drops at 7 p.m. EST.
