The New Orleans Pelicans defended their player in a particular and direct way, mocking Smith

Zion Williamson / Stephen A. Smith

Well-known and controversial sports journalist Stephen A. Smith criticized New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson for his physique and eating habits, despite having an interesting season with his NBA team with 22.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists. These stats seem to fall short of what Smith expected from the basketball player.

The Pelicans franchise was quick to defend its star player with the publication of a video on its social media in which it seeks to place Smith in a particular and direct way, recalling some moments in which he has been involved with the sport and has not come out well, suffering some stumbles.

The 27-second clip intentionally compiles Stephen A.’s disastrous mistakes. There is even a photomontage replacing the mythical photo of Chamberlain with the 100 with a 1.5, the points he averaged during his time in college.

All this happens in the video while listening in the background to his epic and forceful criticism of Kwame Brown after being traded for Pau Gasol, one of his clips that generated a stir and launched him to fame.

Smith was bluntly critical of Pelicans player Zion Williamson’s physique and eating habits. “It’s not about his game, it’s about how many hamburgers he eats. And whether he’s going to stay in shape or keep eating McDonald’s….. That’s what he has to prove.”

Smith harshly criticized Williamson’s commitment to getting and staying in shape in order to excel in the NBA and take the New Orleans Pelicans to the next level.
