Team Canada mocked by NHL forward after their elimination from the World Junior Championship tournament.
A National Hockey League forward may have just made himself public enemy number one when it comes to fans of hockey in the country of Canada, of which there are many, and perhaps even when it comes to some Canadian born NHL players as well.
As many of you reading this will already know, Canada suffered a series of stunning upsets at the International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Junior Championship tournament. Those upsets in turn led to a very early end to the tournament for a Canadian squad whose construction has been heavily criticized, criticized by both fans and opponents alike.
Following the stunning elimination for the Canadians at the tournament, one prominent player in thr NHL decided to take to social media and mock the Canadian squad, kicking them while they are already down. Minnesota Wild forward Jakub Lauko took to social media to share a highlight of Czechia’s power play goal late in the third period, all the while gloating about the win over Canada.
“You love to see it,” wrote Lauko in his caption of the video.
Now to be fair this likely has much more to do with the team that handed Canada their early exit from the tournament, Lauko’s home country of Czechia, than it does Canada itself but no doubt the moment was all that much sweeter for Lauko because of the fact that it came against the hockey powerhouse nation.
Lauko wasn’t done there however, digging up an old tweet from 2024 in which he had previously gloated about a win over Canada and once again pointing out Czechia’s recent run of success over the Canadians at international tournaments.
Something tells me that there may be a few players in the NHL who catch wind of Lauko’s comments and take down his number for the next time their respective teams face off against the Minnesota Wild.
