Actor Sendhil Ramamurthy, recently seen in the Vidya Balan-led ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’, spoke about his admiration for actors Priyanka Chopra and Mindy Kaling. The two actors are constantly pushing boundaries and have made significant strides in the representation of South Asians in the West.

Sendhil, a South Asian American, attended the South Asian Oscar Party hosted by Priyanka Chopra last year. Speaking exclusively to India Today, he said, “Priyanka has been wonderful. She hosted a US South Asian Oscar party, and I went there. We were at the Paramount Studios lot. She is a juggernaut and an extraordinary woman, and the work she is doing for women’s representation is extraordinary. I really admire her and what she’s done and what she’s doing.”

Sendhil predominantly works in Hollywood. The Netflix show ‘Never Have I Ever’ is one of his most talked-about shows. Sendhil has worked with Mindy in ‘Never Have I Ever’ and ‘The Office’.

“I think with her (Priyanka) and Mindy and people like them, this is a great sweet spot for us right now. And they’re providing so many opportunities to people. The opportunities that Mindy gave to South Asians are incredible. The writer’s room on ‘Never Have I Ever’ was predominantly South Asian and predominantly women. We had women South Asian directors, a ton of them, and camera people,” shared Sendhil.

He added, “She kind of said, ‘Alright, this is the shot here. So yes, let’s do it.’ You need people like that. You need people like Mindy and Priyanka who can see that big. That’s not something very common, to be able to kind of have that kind of scale to look at these things. There’s a lot to admire there.”

Sendhil’s ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’ is currently in theatres. The film also stars Pratik Gandhi and Ileana D’Cruz in lead roles.
