Former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce is apparently not buying stock in the New York Knicks. Even with New York currently holding the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference while battling numerous injuries, Pierce offered a unique comparison for the team.
“I’ll be on Instagram and I be like, ‘damn she fine.’ Then you catch ’em in person and you’re like… ‘this you?’ It’s too many filters,” Pierce said on Kevin Garnett’s KG Certified podcast.
While Pierce was essentially comparing the Knicks to a “catfish” in the NBA, it highlights the fact that he believes they aren’t a legitimate contender as the 2024 NBA playoffs approach. The Eastern Conference has certainly been less impressive from a general perspective, with fewer teams believed to be legitimate title contenders, but the Knicks’ 36–25 record doesn’t tell the whole story.
The Knicks are dealing with injuries to Julius Randle, OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson. Just over one month ago, they boasted a 32–17 record, and while they’ve struggled to tread water without three key players, it’ll be interesting to see whether that trend stands true come playoff time.
