Alex Bregman’s free agency is taking longer than expected. Things have been a bit slow after turning down the opportunity to remain with the Houston Astros. Bregman’s demand continues to grow, but not many teams have given him a number.
The two-time World Series winner is a top free-agent first baseman. Pete Alonso is the other top free agent in the same position. Yet, Bregman has more postseason experience. With Houston out of the way, the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox remain favorites to sing Bregman.
However, an NL Central team has emerged as a favorite to sign Alex Bregman. According to former Royals slugger Erik Kratz, Bregman could get a one-year $27 million deal.
“This is my one off the board. Bregman’s lining up to do a prove-it year, and Milwaukee is going to swoop in with a $27 million dollar one-year deal,” Kratz said.
Kratz believes that the Brewers are trying to figure out their middle infield, and Bregman will be the perfect fit.
“They have an issue trying to figure out their middle infield. They have Joey Ortiz at third. It’s not going to ruin his career if they slide him over. Bregman is on a one-year deal, and Milwaukee hasn’t made any moves yet; they do it every single year,” Kratz continued.
Red Sox And Tigers Stand A Huge Chance For Alex Bregman Amid Brewers Rumors
The Red Sox have bolstered their pitching rotation by signing Walker Buehler. With a few offensive spots to fill, Bregman has been their top target over the last few weeks. The Tigers are also planning on making the playoffs in 2025, and Bregman can make that easy.
It’s going to be a battle between the two teams. According to MLB analyst Jon Heyman, the Red Sox and Tigers will be the frontrunners for Bregman.
“I do think the Red Sox and Tigers are the most likely landing spots for Bregman. They both had meetings with Bregman and to me they make sense. The people who have coached and manage Bregman, they absolutely love him. So you have Alex Cora with Boston and A.J. Hinch with Detroit. They both want him badly. I think Hinch loves him, I’m not sure who loves him more but Cora does too.” Heyman said as per SI.com.
Alex Bregman wants a long-term deal, but time is of the essence. Bregman will jump at any opportunity, and it’s hard to rule out any team interested in signing him. Apart from the Brewers, the Giants have shown interest in Pete Alonso.
