Tigers pundit doesn’t see Jack Flaherty in Detroit despite seamless Tarik Skubal pairing – Source: Imagn
The MLB offseason has seen prominent starting pitchers like Max Fried, Blake Snell and Corbin Burnes sign blockbuster deals with new teams in free agency, while former Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty remains without a team.
Fresh off winning a World Series ring with the Dodgers in 2024, Jack Flaherty is reportedly attracting interest from the San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles.
Despite being linked with a move to Detroit and a potential reunion with reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, Tigers pundit Scott Bentley doesn’t see Flaherty as a “priority” for the AL Central team.
He said on his “Locked on Tigers” podcast (10:30 onwards):
“So if you go out and get Flaherty again, totally fine with it, have no issue with that go and and use the money that you’re not putting other places and go bring back Flaherty. I’m imagining he wants a multi-year deal. I think that this would be a match that nobody would have an issue with.
“And, in terms of the rotation, yeah, he would fit in right behind Tarik Skubal like that that’s pretty self-explanatory, right? Then if you bring in Flaherty the rotation becomes Skubal, Flaherty, Reese Olsen and Alex Cobb. We’re going to assume no J Flare because I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think their top priority right now is bringing in Bregman or Santander.”
Jack Flaherty’s free agency attracting interest from several teams in need of reliable arm
Jack Flaherty was part of the Tigers’ starting rotation for the 2024 season after signing a one-year, $14 million deal in December 2023. However, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Trade Deadline last year.
Flaherty had a strong second half of the season with the Dodgers and is hoping to sign a multi-year deal in the offseason. But, as Scott Bentley mentioned, the Tigers are reportedly looking to strengthen the offense and are strongly linked with a mover for star third baseman Alex Bregman.
Apart from the Tigers, Jack Flaherty is reportedly attracting interest from the Baltimore Orioles, who are looking to replace Corbin Burnes after the four-time All-Star starter signed for the Arizona Diamondbacks on a six-year, $210 million deal in December.
MLB insider Mark Feinsand is not ruling out Flaherty’s move to Toronto as he reported the Blue Jays to be “in the mix” for the World Series winner.
