Nick Jonas has a lot of reasons to stay in shape but chief among them is his Type 1 Diabetes.

The Waffle House singer, 31, went over his workout routine with Men’s Health, admitting that he hates cardio so you won’t find him running on the treadmill.

‘[Glucose level] not only affects my basic health, but my emotional state, mental state,’ he revealed.

As a touring musician and actor, staying in shape is critical to being able to run around the stage singing for three and a half hours.

But Nick – who has been in India the past two weeks – has another even more important reason to stay fit: his daughter Malti Marie, two, who he shares with wife Priyanka Chopra, 41.

‘My current fitness goal is to be able to lift my daughter with ease,’ he said.

‘As a parent, it’s a lot of hip hinges down and can be kind of strenuous on the forearms as she gets older and bigger.’

And his current fitness routine was aided by the time he spent on the Audience Network show Kingdom from 2014 to 2017 where he played an MMA fighter.

He called his fitness routine back then ‘really intense,’ with weight training in the morning, followed by cardio and a four hour MMA training session.

‘It was a really fun thing to test myself,’ he said. ‘I am glad that I don’t have to train that hard anymore, though.’

While he’s touring, Nick considers the concert a workout and supplements that with a dumbbell workout in the hotel gym from celebrity trainer Matt Blank called the MH workout program, 6-Pack Fast Track.

He also explained that he likes to gamify his workout to make it more interesting.

And sometimes he works out with his brothers, but they all have different styles when it comes to hitting the gym.

‘Joe likes to be headphones on, getting a real sweat going, and Kevin’s more about mobility,’ he said.

Nick has been in India for the past two weeks with his wife and daughter celebrating the Hindu holiday Holi with family and friends.

The two-day festival celebrates spring, color and love, marking the end of winter and the arrival of spring.

The family also visited a temple with Priyanka’s mother.
