Mets among teams interested in Yankees' polarizing outfielder, per MLB insider image

Former New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo is still available in free agency, but his market appears to be materializing.

Though a reunion with the Yankees seems to be a long shot, Verdugo is reportedly generating some interest from a handful of teams, including a pair of rivals.

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, Verdugo has some interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays.

After the Yankees traded for Verdugo in a rare deal with the Boston Red Sox last offseason, there was hope that he would produce as an above-average left fielder.

Unfortunately for both Verdugo and the Yankees, the veteran left-handed slugger posted a .233 batting average and 83 OPS+, both of which were career-worst marks since becoming a regular player in 2019.

The Yankees have shifted their focus to giving top prospect Jasson Dominguez a shot at earning the starting left field spot. Despite his struggles both at the plate and in the field during his small MLB sample in 2024, there are high hopes he can become a fixture in The Bronx.

It will be interesting to see where Verdugo lands, and it will be something to monitor as his market reportedly heats up.
