Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane’s fiancee Mara Teigen has joined the growing effort to support those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. In an Instagram post on Friday, Teigen shared a poster that showed a list of the various relief organizations seeking donations to help victims and those fighting its spread.
“Absolutely devastating. let this be a lesson for future prevention…” Teigen captioned.
Kane also showed his support for the cause with a one-word comment on Mara’s post.
“Exactly,” Kane wrote.
Eleven people are reportedly confirmed dead and over 12,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed as a result of the wildfires that are spreading across parts of Los Angeles.
Kane has not played this season after undergoing surgeries in July. He played a big part in the Oilers reaching the Stanley Cup Final in the 2023-24 season but it came at a price. Kane reportedly played while nursing a sports hernia and needed surgeries to repair torn abdominal muscles, hip adductor muscles and two hernias.
He has made the most of his absence from the rink by spending time with his family and devoting his efforts to his charitable endeavors. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch has remained noncommittal about Kane’s involvement for the rest of the season, telling the media that the team would not know more about his availability until late January.
Mara Teigen, Evander Kane join growing support effort to combat LA wildfires
Mara Teigen’s post and Evander Kane’s comment are the latest in the growing list of celebrities, NHL players and their partners trying to raise donations across social media.
Former NHL player Valeri Bure’s wife Candace Bure posted a video message on Friday sharing her grief and heartbreak about the destruction caused by the wildfires.
“My heart is so heavy,” Candace said. “Just sharing my emotions and stories here. I am in deep prayer for the communities, people and friends who have lost everything from the fires. And also the heroes who are helping. I sit in grief with you. I kneel in prayer with you. I hold you tightly. May God comfort you in ways that surpass understanding.”
Ashley Campbell, the wife of AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins goalie Jack Campbell, forwarded a message on Friday urging people to volunteer and donate supplies to help pets and animals who were hurt by the fires.
Montreal Canadiens’ injured goalie Carey Price’s wife Angela shared on Wednesday a harrowing clip that showed two men and a dog trapped in a house in the Pacific Palisades as flames surrounded the structure. It was later reported that they were all evacuated safely.
