Jake McCabe left Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers due to an upper-body injury. He fought Garnet Hathaway at the end of the first period and got injured after falling. McCabe didn’t return for the second period and was ruled out for the rest of the game. He skated off the ice on his own.

Jake McCabe missed five games earlier this season after taking a puck to the head. He plays on the top shutdown pairing with Chris Tanev. In 35 games, McCabe has 11 points and averages over 21 minutes of ice time. Earlier this season, the Maple Leafs signed him to a five-year, $22.57 million contract extension.

Leafs coach Craig Berube shared his thoughts on Jake McCabe’s injury. He praised McCabe for standing up for his team but admitted that he didn’t like seeing him get injured. Berube said (via mapleleafshotstove.com),

“I didn’t like it. I didn’t like what I saw, I’ll tell you that. He is sticking up for his team and his teammate. We all really appreciate that, but I did not like seeing that happen.”

Berube also expressed concern over Jake McCabe’s injury, especially after his concussion earlier this season:

“It is concerning, for sure. I don’t like seeing it. It is a tough one.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 26 wins, 13 losses and two overtime losses this season. They will again play the Philadelphia Flyers, who have 17 wins, 18 losses, and five overtime losses, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The Toronto Maple Leafs won 3-2 in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The Flyers scored first at 3:24 of the first period.

Tyson Foerster shot past Dennis Hildeby to open the scoring. The Leafs responded quickly, with Matthew Knies scoring at 4:02 on a rebound to tie the game. Oliver Ekman-Larsson put Toronto ahead 2-1 at 18:52, poking in a loose puck after a save on Steven Lorentz.

In the second period, Scott Laughton tied the game at 2-2 at 11:08, scoring after a pass from Sean Couturier to force overtime. Morgan Rielly scored the winning goal at 2:25, taking a pass from Auston Matthews and shot glove side. It was Rielly’s first goal in 26 games.

Matthews had two assists in his second game back from injury. Dennis Hildeby made 30 saves for the Leafs, while Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov made 22 saves. The win was the Leafs’ fourth straight victory, while the Flyers lost two straight.
