Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s time with the Toronto Blue Jays is running out. Toronto could lose a vital piece if they cannot convince the star slugger on their terms. Guerrero is set to hit free agency after the 2025 season. He hasn’t been shy about expressing his feelings regarding the contract talks.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, Guerrero would love the chance to play for Boston if it comes to that. It would be exciting to see Guerrero playing along with Rafael Devers. Plus, it could mean Tristan Casas shifting to designated hitter or even getting traded to make way for Guerrero.
“If Guerrero doesn’t receive an extension by spring training, he’ll test free agency. If Guerrero doesn’t return to the Blue Jays, he would love to be with the Red Sox, friends say, which may be why the Red Sox are hesitant in their pursuit of Bregman,” Nightengale wrote.
Guerrero would be an incredible addition to any team. He has an impressive track record of 160 home runs and a .863 OPS in six seasons. He recently revealed that Toronto’s offer isn’t even close to his expectations. It left him feeling a bit frustrated as he is in search of a deal that matches his worth. With whispers hinting a gap between what he’s seeking and what the Blue Jays have proposed.
Toronto Blue Jays And Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Are Facing Differences In Contract Talks
The Toronto Blue Jays are finding themselves in a tricky situation when it comes to keeping their star player, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. This four-time All-Star and 2021 MVP finalist has made a huge impact on the team, and securing his future is top priority for the Jays’ front office.
However, as per reports, the two sides are quite far apart in their contract talks. Guerrero is looking for around $450 million, meaning the Jays are currently at least $100 million away from meeting his demands. It’s a tough negotiation, and if the team wants to hold on to their talented slugger, they’ll need to step up their game.
As spring training approaches, the pressure is mounting on the franchises. Guerrero wants to have a deal wrapped up before the season starts. In case that doesn’t happen, he’s made it clear he’s open to testing free agency next winter. The rumor mill is also churning, with whispers about his potential interest in the Boston Red Sox, a team he might consider if he leaves Toronto.
The stakes are high. Failing to secure Guerrero could not only mean losing a franchise player but also potentially handing a rival like the Red Sox a significant advantage in the league.
