Police in California are investigating whether 21-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey was involved in a relationship with a minor.

Last week, the NBA stated they were looking into allegations that Oklahoma City Thunder wing Josh Giddey engaged in an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl after photos surfaced online.

Giddey and Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault declined to comment on the reports last Friday after practice.

According to the Daily Mail, the family is not being quiet and is breaking their silence. The family believes he is being deceived. They said he was “stitched up” — Australian slang for getting tricked — in the situation.

“They are the most down-to-earth people you could meet. They’re very humble,” a source said about Giddey and his family.

“Josh is a good kid and knowing the family, I thought there’s something more to this because he’s not like that,” the source said.

“The consensus is he’s been royally stitched up.”

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault has called Giddey’s situation a “personal matter” and added that the organization decided Giddey would continue playing based on the facts it had. Giddey has remained in the Thunder’s starting lineup since the allegations surfaced.

Working in his favor for now is TMZ reporting that the alleged teen and her family have refused to cooperate with the probe.

The Australian is in his third NBA season. He is averaging 12.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Newport Beach is about 40 miles from Los Angeles, home to two NBA teams.
