Madonna and Tupac’s whirlwind romance remained a secret from the public til after the rapper sadly passed, but in a letter he wrote to the Vogue singer, he revealed why their love came to an end

Madonna was embroiled in a secret relationship with late rapper Tupac.

The Vogue singer shocked the world with the revelation back in 2015 during an interview with David Letterman, where she confirmed that she had once dated the rapper.

“I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and the thing is he got me all riled up on life in general,” she said. “So, when I went on the show, I was feeling very gangsta.”

While many were left believing that their romance was simply a fling, an emotional letter Tupac had written for Madonna during his time in prison shed more light on the depth of their love together.

The three-page love letter obtained by TMZ, which is partially redacted, mentions a fight that the couple had and the pressures Tupac felt while dating her.

“First and foremost, I must apologize to you because, like you said, I haven’t been the kind of friend I know I am capable of being,” he wrote.

“An interview where you said ‘I’m off to rehabilitate all the rappers & basketball players’ or something to that effect those words cut me deep seeing how I had never known you to be with any rappers besides myself. It was at this moment out of hurt & and natural instinct to strike back and defend my heart & ego that I said a lot of things.”

He goes on to admit that he felt “intimidated” by Madonna’s sexually liberated persona and her “sex symbol” status which she had earned in the late 90s.

“Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with [an] extremely famous sex symbol.”

Tupac touches on racial difficulties the pair may have faced by going public with their relationship at the time and shares the pressures he might have faced by dating her.

“For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting.

“But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.”

Tupac ended the note asking her to come and visit him, as he would have “loved to speak face to face” with the Material Girl.

“I don’t know how you feel about visiting me but if you could find it in your heart, I would love to speak face to face with you. It’s funny but this experience has taught me to not take time 4 granted.”

The touching letter, which was handwritten and signed by the rapper who sadly died in 1996, went up for auction at Gotta Have Rock and Roll in 2017 and was expected to sell for a minimum of $300k.
