Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani made a rather exciting personal announcement on Saturday, revealing that he and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, are expecting their first child together.

Ohtani revealed the news in a post on Instagram, sharing a photo of his dog, Decoy, along with a pink onesie and baby shoes. There also appears to be a sonogram, although it was hidden behind a baby boy emoji.

“Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!” Ohtani wrote in the caption of his post.

Sure enough, Ohtani’s announcement quickly went viral, with fans flooding the comment section to congratulate him and his wife.

The MLB, for its part, made sure to congratulate Shohei Ohtani as well, responding in the comment section with a message of its own.

“Congratulations, Shohei and Mamiko,” the MLB wrote.

It’s unknown when Ohtani and Mamiko Tanaka exactly got married, but the Dodgers star made the announcement about their union in February 2024. In an Instagram post, Ohtani wrote in Japanese (and as reported by CNN), “The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married.”

“We are still young and [there are] many things we don’t know yet, but we hope you will warmly watch over us,” Ohtani further stated. “We hope that the two of us (and one dog) will work together to support each other and move forward alongside with our fans.”

Ohtani is fresh off winning the World Series for the Dodgers. Now, he has even bigger news. Indeed, 2024 couldn’t have been any better for him.
