Ice Cube may not have been on hand for 2Pac’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but it was nothing against ‘Pac. In fact, the Compton rapper/filmmaker applauded the class of 2017 selection, saying that the late icon deserves it while fielding questions from a TMZ reporter.

With Cube himself being an inductee of the elite music institution [through his entry with N.W.A. last year], and both he and 2Pac having been relatively anti-establishment in their prime, it was ideal that TMZ got the scoop on how Cube thinks Tupac would have received the honor. According to Ice Cube, it wouldn’t be what many who ride with the revolutionary Tupac Shakur, might think it would have been, admitting that he’d envision 2pac having shown up and partaken in the ceremony.

Still, Cube insinuated that Tupac getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was somewhat here-nor-there for them because ultimately it is hip hop honoring hip hop that should matter. “I don’t know. Could be he’d be happy or not, you know. Hip hop needs our own Hall of Fame. So…” he said.
