The forward has undergone tests and gotten a first update on his injury and the length of his absence. Get the full details below:

On Tuesday evening, Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary was sent flying on the ice and writhed in pain after a brutal collision with Anaheim Ducks’ Drew Helleson.

During the second period of the game while the Flames were up 1-0, Zary had to be helped off the ice after getting kneed by Helleson. The hit was straight on knee on knee, with Zary’s leg bending the other way in gruesome fashion.

This is hard to watch:

Helleson received a five-minute major and game misconduct for kneeing, but was not given supplemental discipline for the hit.

It was extremely hard Zary in so much pain after the brutal hit, especially since he has been on pace to put up career highs across the board, putting up 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 39 games coming into Tuesday’s contest vs Anaheim.
However, some good news, almost miraculous came on Friday morning as insider Frank Seravalli reports that “sources say initial imaging on Thursday indicated no damage to ACL or MCL in his left knee.”

“Still assessing injury and more medical opinion(s) required to determine exact timeline, but a couple major bullets dodged.”

I’m pretty sure no one expected that kind of update after watching and re-watching the sequence.

This is good news and let’s hope for Zary and the Flames it keeps getting better as the injury assessment moves forward.
