The Chicago Sports Network issued a statement on Captain Jonathan Toews’s possible return to the NHL, the Captain “isn’t ruling anything out”.
The Chicago Blackhawks faithful, and the NHL fans everywhere would be excited if they were to see three-time Stanley Cup champion return to the ice.
Toews stepped away from hockey after the Blackhawks didn’t extend his contract in April of 2023.
He has since worked on healing himself, and his CIRS a disease that causes inflammation on a regular basis(hence “Chronic”), and used Ayurveda, and a technique called “Panchakarma” to relieve himself of his suffering.
With news of the treatments working, and a slow return to health, could this be a foreshadowing?
It’s doubtful that Toews will ever return to Chicago, as he’s not a player who could fit into the rebuild plans for the Blackhawks organization.
Maybe one day when he does chose to retire, he could sign for a day and retire wit the team who he won 3 cups with.
There’s a part of me that really doesn’t feel like my career is over yet, and who knows what this next part of the journey looks like, as far as getting back on the ice and trying to make a return to the NHL. There’s never any guarantees in life, but I’m going to give it my best shot. I’m going to enjoy every step of the way. As hard as it’s been at times, I look back now and I’m pretty thankful for it all. So we’ll see what happens.
During 2023’s free agency, there was speculation that teams would be interested in signing Toews should he return to the NHL, after stepping away for a short period.
But we have never heard anything from Toews, only in special circumstances over the past few years.
One team was speculated to take a shot at the hometown boy, was the Winnipeg Jets.
The Winnipeg Jets would be an intriguing option for Jonathan Toews. He is a native of Manitoba, and it seems certain that the team will at least explore trying to sign him with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Blake Wheeler set to leave the franchise. Mark Scheifele is the top centre for the Jets, but Toews could carve out a role at 2C or 3C on a team that should contend for the playoffs against next season.
But it appears, that when he does return there could be a plethora of suitors for a leader, who has delivered three-cups to the Blackhawks organization.
