A Los Angeles Lakers fan is believed to have suffered a season-ending injury as he appeared to tear his Achilles while attempting a shot from halfcourt on Sunday night.

The Lakers’ halfcourt shot is one of the best-paying among NBA teams as a lucky fan is presented with the opportunity to win over $50,000 given the team’s partnership with MGM.

A supporter named Anthony was the one who had a go at the shot during Sunday’s win over the Houston Rockets and would have gone home with a cool $55K had he made the shot from the halfway line. Sadly, not only did he miss the heave, he ended up hurting himself.

As shown in the clip below, Anthony fell down clutching his calf after the miss. He tried getting up and walking it off but was unable to without help and could not complete the promotion, with a three-point shot still available.

One has to wonder whether Anthony might end up cashing out more than the $55K that was on the table as he was injured while participating in an NBA promotion. It’s really an interesting one.
