Nick Robertson has been off to a slow start in 2024/25, and with the team needing to add cap space, David Pagnotta believes that he is still likely to be traded.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been off to a fantastic start this season, with the team sitting atop the Atlantic Division despite missing several players, including Auston Matthews for plenty of time this season.
However, they are going to get healthy eventually, with the likes of Max Pacioretty and Max Domi alongside Matthews all expected to be back shortly, and when that happens, they’ve got some huge decisions to make.

According to David Pagnotta, one of those decisions has potentially already been made internally, as he believes the team will need to move on from young forward Nick Robertson when the roster is 100% healthy.
“I think Nick Robertson is the guy that’s gonzo. Forget about the top six, obviously that’s not happening.
Nick’s still available, he’s still out there, everybody knows he’s a piece that Toronto is willing to trade and because you’re going to have guys coming back from injury….you gotta create a little bit of cap space.
Robertson’s probably going to be the guy who’s out.”
This past summer, we saw new speculation seemingly every day on the future of Robertson in Toronto, and while he re-signed with the team, it’s more likely than not that he’s moved before the trade deadline, perhaps as a piece in a much bigger deal for the Maple Leafs.
Ultimately, with just 6 goals and 9 points in 30 games played this year, Robertson has been far from his best, but at just 23 years of age the future remains bright, and if the right deal presents itself, expect Toronto to be aggressive in trading the young forward.
