It seems PWHL superstar Emerance Maschmeyer and CBS sportscaster Julie Stewart-Binks have struck up a new friendship. The Ottawa Charge goaltender penned a sweet message for Stewart-Binks in response to a story where the reporter referred to Machmeyer as her “best friend.”
On Tuesday, Julie Stewart-Binks shared a lighearted Instagram story featuring two photos of herself with Maschmeyer, taken during different PWHL games — the first on Dec. 29, 2024, and the second on Jan. 7, 2025. She tagged the Ottawa goaltender in the story and wrote:
“I, too, expected to become best friends with Emerance Mashmeyer after doing two @thepwhlofficial games 😂🫶”

In the first image, Julie is seen speaking with Maschmeyer near the ice, likely during their initial meeting. In the second image, taken during their game against the New York Sirens on Tuesday, both women are smiling as Stewart-Binks interviews Maschmeyer.
Emerance Maschmeyer did not miss the story and reposted it on her own Instagram account:
“I love our weekly catch-ups 😂,” wrote Emerance in the caption.

Both Julie and Emerance added the same song, “Best Friend” by Saweetie feat. Doja Cat, to their respective Instagram stories.
Emerance Mashcmeyer made 21 saves for Ottawa on Tuesday
Emerance Mashcmeyer made a crucial last minute save in their rematch against the New York Sirens on Tuesday, as the Charge defeated the Sirens 3-2 at the Prudential Center in Newark.
New York took an early 1-0 lead with defender Ella Shelton scoring her first goal of the season in the first period. Ottawa quickly responded when Danielle Serdachny, the second overall pick in the 2024 draft, redirected a pass from Victoria Bach to tie the game at 1-1.
Later in the period, Shiann Darkangelo put Ottawa ahead 2-1 with a tap-in goal after the puck unexpectedly bounced off a referee’s skate.
Their alternate captain, Emily Clark, extended Ottawa’s lead to 3-1 in the second periods as she lifted a bouncing puck over New York goalie Kayle Osborne’s glove. This was her third goal of the season.
In the third period, New York’s Maja Nylen Persson scored her first PWHL goal with 13 minutes left, cutting Ottawa’s lead to 3-2. Despite the late push, Ottawa goalie Emerance Maschmeyer made 21 saves, including a crucial one in the final 30 seconds to secure the victory. She has now made 55 saves on 58 shots in her last two fixtures against the Sirens.
With the victory, Ottawa has improved to 4-0-1-3, marking its third consecutive win, while New York (3-1-1-3) has dropped to fourth in the PWHL standings.
