NHL analyst sees Connor McDavid as the Rangers’ saviour!
Something’s gotta give in New York and it sounds like the Oilers’ captain could be the answer. And, funny enough it makes sense!
Right before the holiday break, the New York Rangers were brutally defeated 5-0 by the New Jersey Devils, only making their current struggles worse and worse.
When the 2024-25 season got underway, the Rangers had expectations to win the Stanley Cup, but we are far from that dream now. It’s become a nightmare in New York.
This all prompted NHL analyst Steve Dangle to explain how Connor McDavid may be the ultimate saviour for the Rangers. The podcaster explained how, even though McDavid is a proud Edmonton Oiler, he has yet to win the Stanley Cup with the team, and could eventually choose to test free agency in 2026. And Dangle strongly suggests the Blue Shirts go after him!
When McDavid’s contract expires in the summer of 2026, Artemi Panarin’s $11.64 million deal will also be over in New York, making some room on the Rangers’ cap. On top of that, with the message sent to veteran forward Chris Kreider who was a healthy scratch on Monday, and his contract possibly on the move, the Blue Shirts would have over $18 million in additional money available for the free agent market and could make a tremendous offer to McDavid.
The Rangers benefit greatly from the fact that New York is a desirable location for many free agents, and McDavid could be tempted to play for such a bustling city.
Dangle and his co-host Adam Wylde broke it down:
“What happens when Connor McDavid becomes a New York Ranger? … If you don’t think that NHL teams in the East and in the West are going to at least watch that play out and maybe make room for him.”
“I think it would be great for the health and growth of this league, if when the salary cap goes up this season and next year to North of $100 million, and we see all of these teams get a whole bunch of cap space, we can see a very similar Kevin Durant to Golden State situation, where somebody is able to steal a giant player like Connor McDavid to one of these markets and build an awesome super team.”
Can you imagine what having McDavid in a market like New York would do for the league and hockey in America?
However, for me, it sounds more like a Christmas miracle than anything else…
