Drake Passes Eminem To Become Highest-Certified Artist in Digital History Thanks to Now-Diamond Hits ‘Hotline Bling’ & ‘One Dance’

Just nine months after Eminem dethroned Drake as the King of Digital Music, the Canadian hitmaker returned in a big way to recapture the crown.

Before Thursday (December 8), Em reigned in the record books of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as the first and only rapper to boast 3 Diamond singles – meaning each song had sold 10 million copies in the United States. That changed with the most recent RIAA announcement which revealed Drake has a slew of certifications attached to some of his biggest hits.

Drake Surpassed Eminem To Become Highest Certified Singles...

Leading the pack is 2018’s ‘God’s Plan,’ which now sits at 15x Platinum (making it the third highest-certified song in RIAA digital history). At writing, only Lil Nas X‘s ‘Old Town Road’ and Post Malone & Swae Lee‘s ‘Sunflower’ have been certified higher. Elsewhere, Drizzy welcomed two new Diamond singles, ‘Hotline Bling‘ (2015) and ‘One Dance‘ (2016), to his RIAA total – making him the second emcee in history to collect three plaques of such stature.

Among all artists, only Em (3), Maroon 5 (3), Katy Perry (3), Ed Sheeran (3), Imagine Dragons (4), The Weeknd (4), Post Malone (4), and Bruno Mars (5) can boast having as many or more Diamond certifications.
