Fans reacted to the revelation that the Vancouver Canucks had reportedly declined a trade offer from the New York Rangers involving star forward Mika Zibanejad.
According to reports, the Rangers had proposed a one-for-one trade linking former teammates, sending Zibanejad, who is signed to an 8-year, $68,000,000 contract, to the Canucks in exchange for J.T. Miller. However, the Canucks apparently had no interest in the offer, rejecting it outright.
Fans of the Canucks took to social media to react to the news, with many ridiculing the Rangers’ proposal as a poor offer. One fan tweeted:
“Insulting offer” in response to the report.
Another fan wrote:
“Nobody wants mika. He’s worth Hoglander one for one that’s abt it.”
Here are some fan reactions:
“it’s almost like they never should’ve gotten rid of miller in the first place” one fan wrote.
“How’s people saying that’s a bad offer. You never offer the top of the line deal right away you low ball and negotiate to meet somewhere in between” another fan wrote.
“Good decision for the Canucks!” a user commented.
“I like Zibanejab. ALOT ! Even as a Flyers fan but damn….. I would not have taken that offer either if I was the Canucks. Maybe Z and a 1st.” another user wrote.
While J.T. Miller has put up solid numbers for Vancouver this year, recording 29 points in 29 games, Zibanejad has had a down year for New York. The 31-year-old center has just 24 points in 39 games and has failed to match his previous productive seasons.
There had also been some speculation that Vancouver was looking to deal Miller and Elias Pettersson due to rift between them.
Bruce Boudreau’s take on Canucks’ J.T. Miller-Elias Pettersson drama
Former Vancouver Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau strongly criticized the Vancouver media for exaggerating the supposed drama between stars Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller.
On the NHL Tonight: First Shift podcast, Boudreau blasted the local media, saying:
“Because the media in Vancouver is nuts. They take everything, and they build everything out of proportion.”
“Every hockey player that’s out there has played on a team that’s not everybody has gotten along, and they’ve got different personalities. But once you get on the ice, you’re all like you’re not sitting there hoping the other guy fails. It just doesn’t happen on the rope.”
Boudreau pointed out that despite the rumored rift, Pettersson and Miller continue to play big minutes for the Canucks, over 20 minutes per game each.
He believes the media likes to exaggerate interpersonal problems when the team is struggling just to generate headlines.
Both Pettersson and Miller have publicly denied any significant issues between them in the locker room.
