Luka Doncic Injury Update: Mavericks insider offers worrisome update on superstar’s latest status. (Image Source: Imagn)
Ahead of the Dallas Mavericks’ pivotal matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a concerning update emerged regarding the team’s superstar, Luka Doncic. The Slovenian point guard sustained a left calf strain during the Mavericks’ Christmas Day clash with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The injury has already sidelined Doncic for four games and he is set to miss his fifth consecutive game on Friday. According to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, it may be some time before Doncic is able to resume training with the team, let alone return to NBA action.
“Luka Doncic arrived from the AAC parking garage with his leg propped on a little scooter, so, yeah, it’ll be a while before he can train, much less play,” Townsend tweeted.
Luka Doncic’s absence has had a significant impact on the Mavericks’ season. Under Jason Kidd’s leadership, the team was thriving and playing exceptional basketball before the star guard’s injury. Doncic was not only putting up impressive numbers but also steadily climbing the MVP rankings by leading his team to victories.
However, since his injury, the Mavericks’ fortunes have taken a downturn. The team has lost four of their last five games, dropping to fifth place in the Western Conference standings with a 20-14 record.
Dallas Mavericks riddled with injuries
The Dallas Mavericks have been plagued by a string of injuries, with several key players, including Luka Doncic, missing significant time in recent weeks. Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson and Dereck Lively II, among others, have also faced stints on the sidelines, adding to the team’s challenges.
On Friday, the Mavericks face an uphill battle as they take on the league-leading Cleveland Cavaliers, once again shorthanded. Doncic, Irving and Naji Marshall have all been ruled out for the game, leaving Dallas without some of its top contributors.
