Salman Khan didn’t have an Eid release this year

Over the years, Eid has emerged as an important occasion for Bollywood film releases. Producers of many big-budget films choose the festive occasion for launch. However, Salman Khan has been a constant when it comes to Eid releases, often breaking box office records. This year, Salman didn’t have an Eid release. Instead, Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ clashed at the box office on Eid. But did they manage to break Salman Khan’s Eid record? Let’s find out.

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, starring Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, and Alaya F, released on April 11. The film opened to a strong start, drawing in audiences with its action-packed plot and star-studded cast. Its opening day collections were estimated at Rs 15.50 crore nett.

‘Maidaan’, on the other hand, is a sports drama film directed by Amit Sharma, starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role. The film hit the theatres on April 11 and had a decent opening day with a collection of around Rs 4.50 crore nett. However, the film’s collections were moderate compared to ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’.

Speaking about the collection of both the films, trade expert Ramesh Bala told IndiaToday.in, “‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ is a massy action film, that’s how it was even promoted. The audience has enjoyed that and it shows in the collections.”

He added, “’Maidaan’ is made well, it is entertaining. The audience who have enjoyed films like ‘Lagaan’, ‘Chak De India’ in the past, have definitely gone for it. But things would have been different number-wise if there wasn’t a clash at the box office.”

About Salman Khan, his Eid releases such as ‘Dabangg’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Kick’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Tubelight’, ‘Race 3’, ‘Bharat’, and ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’, have set high standards with their impressive box office performances. The highest was made by ‘Sultan’. His film with Anushka Sharma collected approximately Rs 36.54 crore on its opening day, while ‘Bharat’ earned around Rs 42.40 crore. Even Salman’s last release, ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ collected Rs 15.81 crore on Day 1. In comparison, both ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and ‘Maidaan’ had lower opening day collections than Salman Khan’s films.

That being said, both ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and ‘Maidaan’ had successful openings. However, they did not manage to break Salman Khan’s Eid record. Though ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ has been performing better than ‘Maidaan’, both films are expected to churn out bigger figures in the coming weeks.
