Alex Bregman will sign $225,000,000 deal with AL Central team, per Red Sox analyst – Source: Imagn
Two-time World Series champion Alex Bregman is surprisingly still a free agent, waiting for a contract reportedly worth over $200 million. Teams initially interested in his services have either moved on or signed someone else, leaving his market relatively short.
Amid the buzz, Red Sox analyst Jared Carrabis, on his podcast “Underdog MLB,” predicted if Bregman will sign a contract he desires. He said that the superstar third baseman could land a massive $225 million deal over eight years — potentially with a surprise bidder like the Detroit Tigers.
“I think if you’re the Tigers and you want to make a splurge, I think you’re looking at around $225 million for eight years,” Carrabis said (1:07:55 onwards).
“Everyone’s talking about the low end, and then out of nowhere, boom, here’s the Tigers going for it. It’s like Max Fried — everyone’s talking about seven-year deals, six-year deals, whatever — and then, boom, it’s an eight-year deal. I think that’s what happens with Bregman.
“It’s that surprising eighth year. It’s the team that knows, ‘Hey, I know we’re not the favorite. I know we’re not the team you want to be on, but we need you, and I know we can make this work. How about an eighth year? Done.’ That’s what gets him across the $200 million threshold.”
Jon Heyman names two teams most likely to sign Alex Bregman
MLB insider Jon Heyman named the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays as two teams best suited and most likely to sign Alex Bregman. Since the Houston Astros has moved on from Bregman, rumors have tied the third baseman to special connections on the aforementioned teams.
With the Tigers, Bregman would get to play under AJ Hinch first again. The two were a part of the 2017 World Series champions Astros. Meanwhile, with the Blue Jays, Bregman will meet up with his former teammate and friend George Springer, who also played with the Astros in the past.
Heyman also named the Cubs as an emerging contender, as they have cleared cap space and could be on the market to make a big splash.
It remains to be seen how and where Alex Bregman eventually signs.
