The movements for the 2025 Major League Baseball campaign are underway, and once again the New York Mets are making headlines. First it was Juan Soto and his big contract with the Metropolitans, and now Pete Alonso is the protagonist of a story that is not promising for his cause.

In recent days it was revealed that the Mets offered Pete Alonso a 3-year, $90 million contract, a deal that looks attractive for a hitter who is over 30 years old.

However, Alonso is seeking a deal in the $175 million to $200 million range, which has put the Mets in a bind as they weigh whether to keep Alonso or renew the lineup.

The fans are desperate and no longer want Alonso on the Mets

Pete Alonso has a history of 226 home runs, with a .249 average and 586 RBIs, which have earned him four All-Star nominations, a Rookie of the Year award and two Home Run Derby victories.

In the midst of this tug-of-war between Alonso and the Mets, the orange and blue fans are demanding that Steve Cohen’s front office get rid of Alonso from Citi Field so the team can renew its lineup.

One of the reasons why the Mets fans have turned their backs on Alonso is his high strikeout rate in 2024, coupled with the fact that his experience did not weigh in the National League final, where they lost 4-2 to the Dodgers.

Another point against Alonso is the free agency of Alex Bregman, one of the players the Mets would be asking to accompany Juan Soto in the attack, with the aim of returning to a World Series, after more than 24 years of absence.
